The Golden retriever is a very famous breed. It is quite stable, affectionate eager to please and very tender. They make a wonderful companion and family pets for they adore to give and to be able to receive as much attention. They are also very dedicated and faithful with gentle manners, an approachable personality, and with playful nature. They love being with humans and they cannot be with a person who can’t commit as much time as they can for them. They can be quite energetic and they love to swim. They have a deep passion for life and for everything. They are very sociable and can get along with probably everyone.

They are poor watchdogs because of their adoration for almost everyone and everything but despite that, they are very compatible and affectionate towards children, new people and also towards other pets at home. The Golden Retriever loves to eat. They usually suffer obesity because of it. Be sure to be able to watch exactly what they eat to prevent this. They tend to chew a lot which means that you must provide them with the appropriate dog toys to avoid any broken furniture and other belongings. Training them is very easy because they are intelligent and are fast learners. To be able to get good results, be sure to praise them and give them treats when successfully doing a task or trick. Because of its obedient, affectionate, loving, and trusting nature, they are a perfect family pet and companion.

In appearance, the Golden Retriever is large with a very strong build though with a very lovable and cute face. Its coat could be soft and flat or it can be wavy with feathering. Its undercoat is weatherproof. The coloring of the coat of a Golden Retriever can vary into different shades of cream and gold. They always look very eager and ready. In weight, the Golden Retriever is about 55-65 pounds, which is the standard for females and 65-75 pounds for males and in height; the females are about 21-23 inches and 23-24 inches for males.

Sprucing Up A Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever has very moderate grooming requirements. Their coat must be brushed at least twice weekly and if it sheds heavily, must be brushed more often. The straggly hairs must be trimmed. The hair around its bottom must be trimmed for hygienic reasons and its ears must be checked regularly to prevent any infection from causing. Because of its heavy shedding, the Golden Retriever may not be well- suited to those who have allergies.

Health, Lifetime And Dog Lineage

The Golden Retriever can live for about 10-14 years though there are quite a number of health problems that may be encountered. These are cataracts, entropion, allergies, thyroid problems, cancer, epilepsy, OCD, HD, and vWD. Parents of the Golden Retriever puppy should have OFA and CERF certificates.

The origin of the Golden Retriever is from Great Britain. They were bred to be a water retriever and a hunter. Their obedience and cleverness made them famous as guide dogs for those who are blind. The breed was registered with the AKC in 1925.
