This dog has an accepting attitude with other household pets, but it’s good if it has earlier socialization with them. This dog can be naturally aggressive with same sex dogs. This pet is natural herder and can herd the children playing with them and other kids. The Giant Schnauzer loves to be with people, and would require lots of exercise and attention. This dog is naturally cautious with strangers.

This pet wears its coat wiry, harsh, and hard. The color of its coat is pepper, salt and black. This breed is unique, with a wise expression and sturdy build. This pet weighs as much as sixty five (65) to eighty (80) pounds for female Giant Schnauzer and male Giant Schnauzer can be as heavy as eighty (80) to (95) pounds. Females can grow as much as twenty three (23) to twenty six (26) inches, and for males, it can be as much as twenty five (25) to twenty eight (28).

Sprucing Up A Giant Schnauzer

Grooming a Giant Schnauzer needs time and effort, because brushing and combing is needed regularly, its beard must be kept in good condition by cleaning it up so it won’t bring in unnecessary bacteria. The bottom’s hair must be cleaned and trimmed to avoid the onset of infection. Bathing this dog whenever necessary is a must.

Show dogs must be stripped every so often, at least 3 to four months whenever necessary to get rid of its dead coat. The breed is known to be a “low shedder” and great as a pet for allergic persons.

Health, Lifespan And Lineage

There are several health issues this breed has to face up with, they are; skin problems, allergies, OCD, HD, PRA, epilepsy, heart problems and glaucoma. This dog can live as much as ten (10) to twelve (12) years. The parents of a Giant Schnauzer must have CERF and OFA certificates for authentication.

This breed is popularly known in Germany. It is a natural herder in

Bavaria. After World War I, these dogs are known to be as protective, effective, and powerful guard dogs. The Giant Schnauzer almost faced extinction. By the year 1930, it was registered with the AKC.
