This dog is known to be agile and active. The German Shorthaired Pointer is a good natured and versatile dog. Training this pet is not hard, because it is intelligent, obedient and tolerant. Its quickness to learn makes training rather enjoyable, but it can be very dominant and stubborn which can make it challenging for the owners and trainers. It needs a family owner who is trained in taking care of dogs.

This dog is naturally submissive, and a well balanced temperament especially when socialized early with children, household pets and other dogs. This pet has lots of energy and loves to play. You need to have a place where it can ran around and have lots of physical play and mental activities. Boredom resulting with less physical and mental stimulation will encourage this dog to indulge in destructive behavior.

This breed loves to be with children, but it size is not advisable for smaller children, as they can stumble them off. It is necessary to have the pets socialize with a German Shorthaired Pointer early on as it can be very aggressive and chase smaller animals and other curious looking dogs.

Naturally however, this dog has personality and affable. This is a protective and dedicated breed and known to be a great watchdog. These dogs love to be with family, and can be dependable especially when its owners are creatively assertive and confident in taking care of their pet.

This dog wears its coat, flat, short, and close fitting. It has a harsh feel. The color of its coat is liver and white. Some have black or solid liver. These pets are naturally athletic and sturdy in built. It carries with it an alert and intelligent expression. The Female German Shorthaired Pointer can weigh as much as forty five (45) to sixty (60) pounds and for Male German Shorthaired Pointer, it can be as heavy as fifty five (55) to seventy (70) pounds. The height of this dog is twenty one (21) to twenty three (23) inches for males.

Sprucing up a German Shorthaired Pointer is manageable and needs a regular grooming especially when it’s shedding time! Brushing occasionally its short coat will prevent it from shedding heavily when in season Keeping the coat hair spic and span, will keep it really look great. This is pet is not ideal for allergy sufferers as this dog is a “medium shedder” and can make you sneeze most times.

The lifespan of a German Shorthaired Pointer is fourteen to sixteen years. It has a number of health issues to face with like entropion, vWD, epilepsy, cataracts, thyroid problems, elbow dysplasia, and HD. German Shorthaired Pointer parents carry with them CERF and OFA certificates.

The ancestry of a German Shorthaired Pointers comes from Germany, it was known to be one of the best hunting dogs and is also known as jack of all trades in hunting. It was listed with the AKC in the year 1930.
