It shouldn’t be neglected or isolated, or they can become restless. This dog needs exercise, regular runs, and walks. It needs to have a secure and safe place when unleashed.

This dog loves to be with children, but due to its size, smaller children are not advisable to be near a German Shepherd dog! Early socialization with other pets and dogs are necessary, cats are not good companions as they are dominant and aggressive especially with dogs of the same gender. German Shepherds likes to whine most times. This dog protects its family especially those whom it loves most, and it will really defend them bravely without backing off whatsoever.

This dog is known to be powerful and dignified. It carries an agile expression, athletic, well built and power pack creature. It has tall and erect ears! It wears its coat medium length, hard, straight and has an undercoat which is dense. The color of the coat of a German Shepherd varies; it can be black, sable, black and tan. The female German Shepherd can weigh as much as sixty (60) to eighty (80) and for male German Shepherd dog, it can be as much as (75) to one hundred (100) pounds.

Sprucing Up A German Shepherd Dog

The coat of this dog needs combing and brushing regularly, at least thrice a week. This will help you control its shedding. There are times of the year, when it sheds really heavily, and you will have to keep on combing and brushing whenever necessarily. The German Shepherd dog is not an advisable pet for people who suffers allergy.

Health, Lifespan And Ancestry

This dog has some health issues listed under its name like eye problems, pancreas, epilepsy, OCD, elbow dysplasia, HD, bloat and torsion and spinal problems. Despite the German Shepherds health problems it can still live as long as 12 (twelve) years! The German Shepherd parents carry with them CERF and OFA certificates for authentication.

This breed is originally developed for herding in Germany. Its natural protectiveness, obedience, watchfulness and intelligence, made the German Shepherd dog the best choice for security professions like police, military search, rescue, emergency search and even guard dogs! This dog was registered with the AKC in 1908
