Like most dogs of high breed, they can be very good companions in walking around the village or exercising as they may have destructive behaviors when they are cooped up at home most of the time, as they need to burn their energies! These dogs are smart and easy to pick up new lessons.

When an American Eskimo Dog gets mature, it can be very fun loving among children and they are advisable as dogs and pets. They naturally hunt rodents and birds. They can be very possessive with their owners especially when they see you giving much attention to other animals or dogs. An American Eskimo Dog is one of the most preferred watchdog.

There are three strains of an American Eskimo Dog and they come in three different sizes, and they are ; the standard American Eskimo Dog, the miniature American Eskimo Dog and the toy American Eskimo Dog.

The dog growing from 9 to 12 inches in height and can be as heavy as 6 to 10 pounds is the toy American Eskimo Dog, a miniature measures 12 to 15 inches in height and is slight heavier, at around 10 to 20 pounds. The longest is the American Eskimo dog, as it grows 15 to 19 inches and can weight from 25 to 35 pounds.

White or biscuit cream is the usual colour of an American Eskimo dog. The coat is worn harsh straight with a softer and denser undercoat. They also have blue eyes, typical of Americans and may have some deafness tendencies once in awhile. They can be shedding heavily so not good for people with allergies, unless you are willing to take a daily antihistamine.

Combing and brushing its coat twice in a week can make an American Eskimo dog really look great; grooming can be increased when shedding is at its heaviest.

Cleaning up and grooming; are the basic routine for an American Eskimo Dog, and it varies from time to time within the year. Shedding can be at its heaviest at a specific season of the year and may need to have a regular brush. Normally however, once shedding season is over, a twice a week brush up is sufficient. Cleaning and bathing an American Eskimo Dog is done every month.

American Eskimo Dogs usually live from 13 to 15 years. As they grow older usually they have epilepsy, diabetes, luxating patella and seizures. When buying American Eskimo Dogs its good to have a CERF AND OFA certification. Eventually before finally adopting or buying American Eskimo Dogs especially those with blue yes, check their hearing and look out for deafness.
