Clumber Spaniel
The Clumber Spaniel is naturally affable, enthusiastic, and intelligent pet. It is a pleaser, responsive and faithful dog. This dog is the favorite of children, especially those whom they grew up with. Playing and clowning around is one of its best characteristics.
It has lots of stamina and a serious worker when needed. This pet is well loved by hunters as well, as it has a natural instinctive hunting blood. It is very good in catching games or helping out the hunter in catching its prey. This pet however, once its training is socializing within the household is really an apple of the eye of the family.
Many fathers would choose this pet for their sons and daughters as it is the friend of household pets and other animals. This dog is friendly to strangers and is not effective watchdogs. This dog is the shy type, and can be very timid so it’s good to have it trained in socializing early.
This pet is full of spirit, as it can have a high level of energy when it joins in family activities. It has a natural sweet, innocent, and gentle dog. Clumber Spaniels are quite mischievous, endearing and can be very frustrating at times.
This breed is known to be “medium size” it has an athletic chunky build. It has a good natured facial expression, with its soft, long ears framing its face, which makes it likeable. Clumber Spaniel females can weigh as much as fifty five (55) to seventy (70) and seventy (70) to eighty five (85) pounds for male Clumber Spaniel. Females can grow from seventeen (17) to eighteen (18) inches, and males from nineteen (19) to twenty (20). It wears its soft silk coat close and dense. Its coat hair is feathered on the belly, legs and tail.
Sprucing Up A Clumber Spaniel
Sprucing up a Clumber Spaniel is a challenge, because this needs four times in a week brushing. This is not advisable for allergy sufferers. Combing the coat will make it really look great. You need to check the ears for hygienic purposes. Its eyes will need occasional cleaning up. It is important to trim some hair on its bottom whenever necessary and the coat as a whole when it grows disproportionately within the body.
This dog needs regular bathing whenever necessary, and clipping and trimming with a professional groomer if it needs to be in a dog show.
Health, Lifespan And Lineage
This dog can live up to ten (10) years, and is relatively short as compared to other breeds. It has a lots of health issues to deal with like spinal problems, entropion, HD, and cataracts, typical of its breed. The parents of a Clumber Spaniel have CERF and OFA certificates. Regular sprucing up will prevent infectious diseases and can maximize its life.
The Clumber Spaniel hails from Great Britain. It is a popular “portly gentleman’s shooting dog.” This pet is the favorite of hunters. This breed which is naturally easy going and dignified was registered in the year 1878 with the AKC.
