This pet is naturally affectionate and loving, and pet owners most times choose this pet. This breed needs somebody to have a dedicated time of taking care of dog; otherwise, it can get really strong willed as it does not want to be neglected. The Chinese Crested is known to be lively, playful, cheerful, and lots of energy and spirit. It is known to be inquisitive, intelligent, and alert.

It learns quickly. It is known to be strong willed and independent. This dog is also known as the “Velcro dog” because it is fond to be with its family owners and get easily attached to them. It likes to do lots of things like playing, climbing, and tricks.

This dog prefers both experience and inexperienced owners as long as the family pet owners have lots of love and attention to share with a Chinese Crested. It prefers to be with considerate and older children who wouldn’t treat him badly and roughly. It likes to be with household pets as well, but it can have some jealous streak once in awhile. This dog is naturally timid and reserve, but it has a bright and gentle disposition.

Training this pet to socialize can help it overcome its shyness, it can also get emotional once in awhile especially when it is highly stressed. Effective training of trainers can make this little creature a great companion.

Sprucing Up A Chinese Crested

This breed has two varieties; one is a powder puff kind and the other a hairless Chinese Crested. The powder puff dog has lots of silky hair on its dog body. It wears a silky undercoat, but soft outside.

The hairless Chinese Crested wears its skin without any coat hair, but it has a silky crest hair on its head, tail, and feet. It has a unique elegant look. It is known to be the best pet for people who suffer allergies. This dog can weight as much as ten (10) to fifteen (15) pounds and can grow as much as eleven (11) to 15 (fifteen) inches.

Sprucing up this dog is not as hard as it could be, depending on the variety. The powder puff Chinese crested needs regular brushing at least twice or once a week. The hairless Chinese Crested needs lotion or dog oil for massage so the skin is in good condition especially for show dogs. Bathing this dog is done whenever necessary. The routine check of eyes and ears are important for hygienic purposes.

Health, Lifespan And Lineage

Chinese Crested can live as much as thirteen (13) to sixteen (16) years, and it has some health problems to consider like dental problems, acne, allergies, sensitivity to medicines and chemicals, Legg Perthes, skin problems and retinal detachment.

The Chinese Crested parents must have CERF and OFA certificates. It is good to check if you choose the hairless Chinese Crested how it faired in cold countries, otherwise you have to make it sure it wears a coat or a jumper to avoid the onset of sickness.
