Akita
If you need a protective, dignified, devoted and powerful watch dog, Akita is the name . Children are usually protected by this pet can be very cold, stand offish and aloof with people he doesn't know. Akita is commonly known as “Akita Inu” in Japan, it is a large dog. Akitas are instinctively independent and powered with a strong character and sometimes it can be very challenging for trainers to make it obey. The dog can also be aggressive with a different specie with the same sex dogs, and smaller animals. Akita thrives in a cold weather and needs to go out for an exercise.
It is also has a gift of calmness and intelligence during training despite of its stubbornness and seemingly hard to please personality. Trainers with a certain number of experience who have Akita themselves is the best for this dog. It doesn't like to be cuddled overly but the loyalty of an Akita to a family is highly admired. Assertion, destruction can be avoided when owning an Akita when it is given a daily walk and regular physical activity.
Akitas can grow up to 24 to 28 inches and can be as heavy as 75 to 115 pounds. It wears a straight, harsh coat with an undercoat which is soft and dense to the touch The coat is compose of different colors like Pure White, Red, Brindle, Sesame and Fawn. The face is with a blaze and a mask, although some Akita has some unique looks. Akitas also shred regularly and weekly grooming is a must. Keeping Akita neat in clean is not really that taxing, as shredding of heavy coat is only seasonal.
Sprucing Up An Akita
Cleaning and weekly grooming an Akita is to make the coat in top shape as it is compose of two layers, a thick over coat and a dense undercoat; this is to protect them from fierce cold weather, using a pin brush or a rake is better. Shedding by Akita breeds are seasonal basis makes the grooming of an Akita really manageable and can be scheduled, as the heavy shedding is on season to season, usually during summer. Akita grooming usually takes its peak when the season for heavy shredding turns around.
Health, Lifespan And Lineage
An Akita lives from 10 to 13 years at the maximum. This breed has some peculiar physical health problems like autoimmune problems, skin conditions, PRA, vWD, luxating patella, lupus, thyroid problems, cancer, autoimmune problems and skin conditions. Parents of the puppy must have CERF and OFA certificates and must have undergone a Thyroid test.
Akita breed is grown in Japan, and enhanced by a famous Samurai. The dogs lineage is counting more than 300 years of meaningful history and it evolved in the mid 1600s. There are actually two types of Akita, an Akita Inu, the pure breed from Japan and American Akita. Only one name is registered in American Kennel Club. An Akita dog was registered with AKC in 1972 and considered as a official treasure of Japan nationally. It has a monument to its breed.
