Borzoi are dignified, graceful and mild mannered. It is affectionate by nature, and it has an uncanny calmness in his temperament. It is also a quiet dog and independent. This is also a dog which is fast and active, and needs lots of exercise. This breed also needs a secure and safe place where it can exercise and play or it will just around and might be lost in a flash. There is something wonderful about this dog, because it loves to be with people especially older children, it loves and is very considerate with them. The nobleness and regality of a Borzoi is it loves to protect its owners, especially their children owners; however, it is not advisable to have it taken cared of by smaller children because this breed can grow faster than them.

These breed can go along well just fine with large dogs, it loves to play and chase, so it is better off if they are not joined with cats, small dogs and other smaller animals, as it can case them playfully, and can cause a catastrophe inside the house or in your garden. Borzoi has to be trained as a little dog to socialize as it can become shy or aggressive. Generally, this breed is gentle but it doesn’t want to be startled or teased, and this can instinctively defend itself. These breed can get bored easily, so it’s good to have a daily walk to spend its energy. It can also be intelligent, sensitive, quiet, and demanding most times.

Borzoi dogs can weight as much as 75 to 100 pounds and grow as high as 26 to 33 inches. The coat of this dog is silk and can be curly and wavy. The color of these coat ranges from red, brindle, red sable, black and tan, white with markings and solid white and its stature is like a greyhound. It is trained to run with agility and speed to hunt wolves. It has an elongated head, smaller, sturdy build, robust and large. The coat is silk and is a heavy shedder when it is in season, but most times, they are considered as medium shedders.

Sprucing Up A Borzoi

This dog loves to be brushed twice weekly every year, but when shredding goes heavily, it needs to be brushed daily, and shampooed when necessary. The hair between the toes should be cleaned and trimmed and it has to be dried as well. The coat is usually shampooed dry.

Health, Life And Lineage

The life expectancy of a Borzoi is 9 to 13 years. Once it reaches the age of maturity, it can have several problems like allergic reactions to medications and chemicals, bloat, PRA, heart defects, bone cancer, cataracts and retinopathy. Borzoi puppy’s parents carries with it a CERF and OFA certificates, for authentication of its true breeding.

Borzoi is popular among the Russian aristocrats as it is trained to hunt and track down wolves. These dogs are usually trained in packs and hunts together. Tolstoy loves Borzoi dogs. In 1891was the year it was registered at the AKC.
