Border Terrier
Border Terriers are friendly and keen and it can be very enthusiastic whenever necessary. It is naturally good, agile and lots of energy. Border terriers can be considered as one of those dogs considered as easy go lucky, but it is also sensible and can be laid back at most times, however sometimes it is filled with lots of spirit and amazing energy. It is also known for its stamina. It loves to explore and has the determination of gazillions of happy moments. Once in awhile it can into a deep trouble, so it’s good to keep it secure and safe, an example is giving it a place in a garden but all fenced up. This dog is always eager to love and please its owners. It is good however to have a reliable experience of dog ownership as Border terriers have high levels of energy and its agile spirit can be very challenging.
Children love Border Terriers as it goes along with them. It is better if Border Terriers are raised with their children owners. It also has a hunting instinct, and it likes to kill rodents. It is not good to keep a hamster with a Border Terrier or else it can be a great catastrophe inside the house. This breed goes along well with strangers, but it can also bark when necessary, so it is good as a watchdog, but not a guard dong. Border Terriers are responsive when it is given training, trainers who are experienced can really get the best out of this lovable dog.
Border Terriers grows as much as 11-15 inches, and it weighs 12 to 20 pounds. This breed has a big heart. Its exterior coat is harsh and underneath it’s closed. The coat it wears has different variety of colors; it can be tan, blue or grizzled tan. It has inquisitive and alert eyes. It usually folds its ears at the top of his head at the sides, giving an impression of alertness. This dog is sturdy and robust despite of it being small.
Sprucing Up A Border Terrier
Border terrier’s needs to have its coat brushed weekly, so it will look tidy and net. It also has to be clipped every two to three months to really look great. Border Terriers have their coat stripped at a regular schedule if they are in for a dog show. Clipping coat for grooming and bathing it is really necessary. This breed is great for allergic owners as it does not heavily shred.
Health, Life And Lineage
Border terrier’s lives up to 12 to 15 years old, it can be longer. When reaching maturing age it has lots of health problems like allergies, HD, PRA, heart murmurs, seizures, autoimmune problems, thyroid problems, luxating patella, cataracts, Legg Perthes. Its parents carry a CERF and OFA certificate for authentication.
Border Terriers are like Border Collie, they are both grown along the borders of Scotland and England, United Kingdom. The old name of this dog is called Reedwater Terriers. They were trained as hunters together with foxhounds along the country side. It has a registration with AKC in 1930.
