Most times they are not aggressive only with other dogs species, generally Airdales are polite and friendly. It is a dependable watchdog but independent, headstrong, and stubborn. Airedale Terriers were basically instinctively for herding livestock. It is most helpful in the farm and can go along with other animals, however when not trained, it can be a cause of headache.

Airedale Terriers may cause agitation to other animals and very tenacious. It is great to bring him with you when taking a walk as he can get bored and have a hard time controlling him especially when he needs to burn those stored energy! Otherwise they can get destructive inside your compound.

It is best for an Airdale Terrier to have obedience training with an experienced trainer, as this breed is lovable and you might end up out smarted. A trainer working on an Airdale should be firm, optimistic and assertive.

Sprucing Up An Airdale Terrier

The beard of an Airdale has to be kept groomed at all times to make them look really neat and cool. His coat shreds as most dogs do, but not heavily as compared to its counterparts. It has a long fluffy tail. Some breeders opt to have their Airedale Terrier tails especially in the U.S. the others opt to have it long, like in UK.

It is a sturdy terrier and has the capacity to grow at 22-24 inches, weighing 45 to 70 pounds. It wears his coat wiry and quite hard and its grizzled black and tan. The Airdale terrier wears it hard outer coat tand the undercoat is soft, like when you are wearing a woolen coat during winter. It has a unique expression distinct to terriers and a beard needing grooming.

An Airdale terrier when properly groomed and trimmed daily especially his bottom so he sheds lightly. When combing of beard is in a regular basis is hygienic and neat. If an Airdale Terrier goes for a show regularaly it is good to have to strip the coat every 2 to 3 months depending on the need. Some pet owners opt to have the coat clipped, and most used a brush with bristle stifly made to keep it in good condition. Airdale Terriers bathe necessarily.

Health, Lifespan And Lineage

It is expected for an Airedale Terrier to live for ten to fourteen years. Usually they die of bleeding disorders, thyroid problems, allergies and vWD, problems in the hips is also the main cause of discomfort for these dogs.

When purchasing an Airdale Terrier don't forget to get the OFA certificate. The breeding of Airdale Terrier started from Waterside, Great Britain or commonly known as Bingley Terrier, the dogs are used for killing and hunting vermin and army work. In the year 1888, the terrier was officially registered at AKC.
