Have you ever seen an Australian Terrier in its full grown size? It is robust, sturdy, and small! Its height is actually 10 to 11 inches and can weigh 12 to 18 pounds. It wears it coat straight, harsh, long, and dense, and it has an undercoat. The color of the coat varies from solid blue, gray blue and steel blue. It also has its ears, face, and under body with tan colored rich hair! The tan blue color is really common. It has a solid and red coloring as an option.
This dog is a low shredder if it is properly brushed and groomed. This is great for people who needs pet but with allergies. The coat of an Australian Terrier is harsh and it needs to be brushed twice at the maximum, weekly. The hair on its bottom has to be trimmed to avoid sickness and hygienic purposes!
You may use some oils naturally made, to make the coat stimulated and it can give a stunning glossy look! If you want the coat clipped, it can be scheduled at a regular basis with months as an interval. Most show dogs have its dead coat trimmed, clipped, and stripped regularly with few months interval when needed.
Health, Life And Lineage
Most Australian Terriers live up to 11 to 15 years old. Its’ health problems varies from skin problems, allergies, diabetes, Legg Perthes, and the common luxating patella. Its parents carry OFA certifications.
Australian Terriers are from Australian; their instinct is to hunt snakes and rats! Its ancestors are terriers with rough coats. The breed’s ancestry counts to a one and a half century. In the year 1960, this breed was registered with AKC.
