The breed with a unique personality, versatile, responsive, attentive, agile, and solid! These are responsive and a clever breed, called Australian Shepherd! They are trained to be sheep herders! They are sometimes called as the “Aussies.”

These dogs are helpful in dog therapy, rescue, guide, disaster, service, and detection. They are energetic and fast. It loves a variety of tricks and fun like chasing balls, jogging, Frisbee, biking and even herding! It can be very demanding with their family owners, as the like to seek attention and love.

They want to be mentally alert and stimulated and always busy. Some personality types of this breed are well mannered, less animated, and calmer, depending on the training.

The Looks Of Australian Shepherd Information

This is a pet who loves children, especially those whom they grow up with, and it can be wary and suspicious of strangers. Some love to chase small cats, and can tease other dogs of a different breed. It can also be aggressive and protective of their adopting family. They are good watchdogs as well. It instinctively herd other animals and even people by a nip and circle around them, hoping to herd them all together!

These breed have two different sizes. The first size grows from 18 to 23 inches long, and can weight from 40 to 75 pounds. The second size is a miniature breed, as it grows from 14 to 18 inches high, and weighs 20 to 40 pounds! The miniature breed may come in smaller, but its physical traits, temperament, and personality are basically the same.

An Australian Shepherd has its coat worn in straight or medium length. It can be a little wavy and straight. This coat is double as it protects it from the cold winter in Australia. The thickness of its coat can be challenging for maintaining it. The coat have different color varieties, it can be white and tan marking, blue merle, black, red merle, and pure red! The eyes are brown, blue, or blue brown.

Sprucing Up An Austrlian Shepherd

An Australian Shepherd requires grooming depending on the thickness of the coat and its underlining undercoats. Most of their undercoats are thin, as it already has a double coat. It sheds heavily twice in a year. To make the coat look well, it has to be groomed and brush regularly. Most coats are worn just right, most dog owners of an Australian Shepherd dog find it easy to maintain is double coated coat.

Health

Most Australian Shepherd dogs live from 12 to 15 years. Its health issues and problems include cancer, skin problems, allergies, heart problems, epilepsy, glaucoma, and cataracts. Its parents carry with them CERF and OFA authenticated certificates.

History

American Ranchers where the ones who started breeding the Australian Shepherd dogs primarily for herding in the farm. Its ancestry is from the United State despite its name. The second version, the miniature Australian Shepherd Dog, is not yet accepted as a real breed, but the standard size was accepted at AKC this 1990.
