A sturdy, powerful, and courageous temperament is what makes an Anatolian Shepherd really lovable. It is also dignified and calm but has the bravery to respond when necessary. It can be independent and possessive once in awhile. It is willful and strong minded. It is challenging to train an Anatolian Shepherd dog, and it is best for experienced dog owners.

This dog makes its own decision, and most times not the usual playful and interactive pet. Most owners are usually experienced and assertive pet lovers or this pet can be dominant and may boss you over.

Anatolian Shepherd dog loves children who are considerate and older and those whom it grows as a family. However, if it is with other children it has to be introduced properly. Most family pets loved it as well, especially the well mannered ones. It loves its owners and is protective of them.

It is most times suspicious of strangers especially when not properly introduced. This breed knows that it has job to do and it has to be done fast, unless otherwise trained to socialized, it usually takes the lead of the pack.

An Anatolian Shepherd dog can grow as long as 28 to 32 inches, and it weighs heavily from 90 to 145 pounds. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog wears its coat dense, and long. It has a harsh feel and wears an undercoat thick to protect it from cold. It has a sturdy and healthy build, as it has an expression of alertness most times. The coat has different colors; you can find it in brindle, sable, white, red, or fawn! Anatolian Shepherds wears a mask colored black and unique ears.

An Anatolian Shepherd Dog’s coat has a weekly brush up on a daily basis. It requires shedding frequently and can be heavy when it is in season to change its coat. The coat of an Anatolian Shepherd Dog will have to be brushed often, when the shredding is heavy, to keep it clean and elegant.

Life Span And Health

The life of an Anatolian Shepherd Dog takes 12 to 15 years. Its health issues are usually sensitivity to medications and chemicals, thyroid problems, and entropion. Its parents carry an OFA certification for its elbows and hips.

Lineage

An Anatolian Shepherd dog is a mix lineage of Akbash Dog and Kangal Dog. This breed existed far way back 1000 A.D.! It helps shepherds to drive away cheetahs, wolves, bears, and jackals which causes chaos and kills a herd of shepherds in an open field.

It is found to exist in Mesopotamia 6000 years back!

An archeologist named Charmian Hussey brought an Akbash Dog in UK and later on registered as a modern dog breed.

Turkey is the home country of an Anatolian Shepherd Dog. Its history lives back to thousands of ages. It was commonly known as an Anatolian Karabash, as its primary duty was to safeguard and protect flocks and herds. It is instinctively a guard dog. It was a registered breed with AKC in the year 1999.
